Pioneer Cemetery at Windy Hill Campground

There are nine gra ves next to the Blevins picnic area in the Windy Hill Campground, Chipmunk site.  The sign indicates there are three Blevins children and an unknown man all shot by the sherriff.  In addition there are five unknown persons.

The story says the Blevins family was involved in rustling.  Upon hearing of their location the sheriff Perry Owens visited to arrest the father, Henry Blevins.  He refused to come out of the house.  A gunfight ensued and Henry Blevins was wounded and three children were killed, at least one was an adult son and another was 15 who expired in his mother's arms.  Henry Blevins was sent to jail.  The sheriff was cleared of charges due to self defense but he did lose his job as sheriff.  The home was in the valley now covered by Lake Theodore Roosevelt.
