Dundee, Neb. A Pictorial History, Dan Rock project director, Dundee-Memorial Park Association, Shurson Publishing, Omaha, NE, 2000.
A very good history of Dundee, which has long since been annexed into Omaha. Dundee began as a street car town as when the street car was put in a line was extended to Dundee. This allowed people to get to Omaha from Dundee.
Dundee is the area including Memorial Park and then going back east to beyond 50th street. 50th and Dundee is the major business cistrict. The Buffet store where warren Buffet worked for his uncle is in Dundee although their first store was downtown Omaha.
Dundee traditionally had unique light posts and although not always maintained they still exist.
Some newspaper articles at the end told the story of the conflict betwwen UNO and Omaha City over elmwood Park. The university always wanted the park area for university expansion and parking. This conflict lasged for many years. The park as it is now is overwhelmed during the day with university students parking there. However the park still survives with golf course and swimming pool and sitting areas. Three major parks in Dundee, Elmwood Memorial and Sunken Gardens along Happy Valley Road.
Another interesting news article was that of the bomb. This took place in WWII and Japan launched baloons with boms attached hoping they might create panic. The policy was not to report such bombings as the Japanese were wanting feed back. consequently not much was made of the bomb which exploded high in the air and did not hurt anyone. However a bomb did kill a family in Oregon and hit a nuclear facility in Washington.
