Documentary Movie Review: Argentina (2015)

This is a movie of the music and dance of Argentina.  It is by Carlos Saura.  There is not much dialogue, as they go from one dance and music style to another.  It includes interpretations of zamba, baguala, chamamé and chacarera.  Featured artists include: Pedro Aznar, El Chaqueño Palavecino, Soledad Pastorutti, Juan Falú, Liliana Herrero, Jairo, Mercedes Sosa, Jaime Torres, Luis Salinas, Gabo Ferro, Metabombo and Luciana Jury.  Basically very many Argentine folkloric singers and dancers.  There are a couple things I really enjoyed.  Mercedes Sosa has passed away,  but they showed her singing "Cambia, Todo Cambia" for a school.  It was very moving.  She asks if everything changes, it is not strange that she herself changes.  She does say one thing does not chane, her love.  I was introduced to this song from the Buenos Aires Tabernacle Choir presentation in Argentina.  Metabombo played with lots of drums and dances.  It was interesting how the men primarily would dance on the sides of their shoes rather than the soles.

This movie does a very good job of preserving the folkloric music of Argentina.  The drums and dancing adds to this.  There was a dance where they created a rhythm with spinning boleadoras.  It was very cool.
