New Hope Flooded Out

This article, in talking about the flooding potential of the confluence of the Stanislaus and San Joaquin rivers, tells the story of New Hope, which was flooded out in the winter of 1846-47.  Although bickering played a part the the abandonment of the area, the flooding was a final blow.
